Molly's Circus, by Esther Kent, reviewed by Pippa Goodhart

This is the perfect joyful book for children and parents stuck at home, but with access to some garden and imagination.

By Scottish artist, and debut children’s picture book author/illustrator, Esther Kent, this is a book that bursts with fun. It has few words, but is illustratively rich in humour and ideas and beauty.

The book follows exuberant Molly and her hassled mother as they go out into the garden. Mum is hanging out washing, watering plants, mending a bike, picking pears, feeding birds. But Molly, very much dominating the pictures, is experiencing a whole extravaganza of circus fun, and we can tell just where her ideas are coming from. It’s all wild and colourful and wonderful … until she comes down to earth, literally, with a bump.

Mum’s next job is to give Molly and comforting cuddle, and hear all about that circus.

This book is just lovely, probably especially for children aged about two to six. Highly recommended. I look forward to more in due course from Esther Kent.
