All the Awfully Big Reviewers write in their own way, enthusing about whatever book they choose to share and I enjoy reading everyone's ideas and choices.
However last week, I came across something on naother blog that felt far more than a "Review". It was welcome: a deep, serious analysis of how a picture book works..
It was Stroppy Authors newest blog venture:
Stroppy Author chose "Not Now Bernard" for her first Book Vivisection. It's a familiar title seen on many shelves and in many book boxes.
But just because you've seen the book, it doesn't mean that you've ever seen it in quite this way.
The article offers a careful analysis of the book, questioning the controversy that the book originally created, bringing out the nuances of David McKee's artwork and text and revealing the shades of meaning that an illustrator can bring to a story.
Must add that this kind of Vivisection actually brings this book to greater life!
Well done, Stroppy Author.
